Meryl Streep Wants Answers in the New Big Little Lies Season 2 Trailer

We finally know when Big Little Lies Season 2 will be hitting HBO. Thanks to the official teaser trailer, the long-awaited follow-up to the hit limited series is due to be released on June 9, and there’s a lot more drama ahead.

Beware, as there are major spoilers for Big Little Lies Season 1 ahead.

Following Season 1’s deadly finale, the members of the “Monterey Five” meet to discuss how they’re going to keep the secret of what happened that night. Seemingly, Season 2 will explore how Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern), and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) all move on after the death of Celeste’s husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgård).

To complicate matters, Perry’s mother, Mary Louise, played by the inimitable Meryl Streep, arrives in Monterey hoping to discover what really happened to her son. At the end of the teaser trailer, she comes face-to-face with Madeline and says, “I want to know what happened that night. I’m very tempted to ask you, but I don’t think I would get the truth, would I?”

Understandably, the events of Season 1’s finale appear to be hitting Kravitz’s Bonnie the hardest. At one point in the trailer, she can be heard saying, “It’s gonna get us. It’s gonna get us all—the lie.” Woodley’s Jane seems to agree, telling the other members of the group, “We all have scarlet letters on our back.”

Thankfully, the wait for Season 2 is very nearly over, because the anticipation is real.
