Matt Baker issued warning by Alex Jones as he makes risky move on The One Show

Matt Baker, 42, was joined by Alex Jones, 42, to host the mid-week edition of The One Show and the hosts covered all manner of topics. One particular focus of conversation turned to a priceless treasure which was brought into the BBC studios. However, as the Countryfile star went to unveil the historic find to viewers, his co-star jumped in to issue him a warning.

Prior to the live discussion, viewers learnt of the origins for the treasure, which was a golden pendant known as a Bula thought to have been made in the Bronze age.

Although the discovery was made in the Midlands, the location and finders of the antique were undisclosed to viewers because of how much it cost.

On hand to explain the details about the jewel, British museum bronze curator Neil Wilkin brought along some of the other treasures which had been found.

With those watching at home already being shown the Bula, Matt went to reveal what else was found but because of how priceless they were, Alex saw fit to warn the host.

Neil began: “There’s been objects form all sorts of periods found in the same location, including hundreds of years after the Bula was made.

“So, it tells us this place was really important for generations,” he explained, talking of the location where the discoveries were made.

Matt then jumped in as he revealed what was behind the cover of one of the other jewels, stating: “I’m going to pull this back now, because there’s something quite amazing under here.

“I’m going to be very careful because I know it’s incredibly expensive,” he continued, but Alex interjected as she warned: “Don’t touch it!”

Luckily enough, the shock of his co-host’s outburst didn’t throw Matt off kilter and he unveiled the treasures without touching them.

Analysing what looked like gold jewels covered by a ceramic cover, the presenter remarked: “It looks quite incredible in itself because it’s wrapped up in something.”

Explaining the finer details of the treasure, Neil said: “This object was found close to the pendant and the piece of lead which is wrapping two jewels – which would have been worn as earrings or on the clothes – and it’s been wrapped so it would sink.

“So, these objects are being thrown into a watery pool intentionally, never to be retrieved.”

The bronze curator continued: “What I love about it is it’s a little moment in time.

“A little time capsule wrapped in this lead, never to be seen for three thousand years.”

Going back to the Bula, the presenter’s then asked how much the golden pendant was worth, to which Neil revealed it would value at around £250,000.

Both Matt and Alex were shocked at the news, before going on to ask what the other jewel was worth.

Currently, the two earrings wrapped in lead is going through the treasure process to clarify whether it would be put in such a category.

Once the process is complete, the treasure will then be sent back to Shrewsbury museum where it will go on display.

Still taking in the news, Matt reiterated: “Quarter of a million pounds,” completely gobsmacked by the valuation.

Alex quipped: “Put it in your pocket,” before clarifying to her co-host she was only joking.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
