Marvel's Agents of SHIELD season 6 might not be the show's last

Back when Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD was trudging through its first season, we weren’t sure it was going to get a second. Then we thought it was going to end with its fifth, and then thought ‘okay, a shorter sixth season has to be the end’.

But nope, it turns out that the series may live to fight another day, again.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC’s Channing Dungey has given fans some hope for more.

When asked about the future of the show, she said: “We’ll see. I feel like last season was our strongest creative season ever and the fan base remains very loyal — and we do very well in delayed viewing.

“It’s my hope that by moving it to summer, where our live-same-day ratings are less important, it might be able to continue for longer.”

Over the years, Agents of SHIELD‘s ratings has dropped, but its critical response has improved and, as Dungey mentioned, the show has a very passionate fanbase.

The sixth season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first TV spin-off will feature star Clark Gregg directing the first episode, although we don’t know yet whether he will return as Agent Phil Coulson. A cast member from season five is also being promoted to the main line-up, too.

Dungey has also revealed that a new Marvel show is in the works at ABC, but she won’t tell us what it is yet.
