Marvel television series: What MCU shows will be released and who are the main characters?

Marvel fans will be delighted to see their favourite characters return after the climactic conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.

Many of Marvel's lesser-known characters have been given their own series to show what they're made of.

What Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series will be released?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Autumn 2020

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities and their patience in this new series.

It will be directed by Kari Skogland who also directed several episodes of The Handmaid's Tale.

The series will air on Disney Plus later this year.

WandaVision – December 2020

As Disney describes it, in WandaVision, Marvel Studios "blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision – two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives- begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems."

It will be directed by Matt Shakman, who is well known for his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fargo and Game of Thrones.

The series will star Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision.

The series will air on Disney Plus later this year.

Helstrom – TBA 2020

Helstrom, based on the Marvel Comics antiheroes of the same names, it set to arrive on Hulu at some point this year.

The official synopsis for the series reads: "As the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, Hulu Original Helstrom follows Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon), and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their own attitude and skills."

It is produced by Paul Zbyszewski, an American television writer and producer known for his work on the series Lost and Day Break.

Loki – Spring 2021

Villain Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, is reprising his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place following Avengers: Endgame.

Michael Waldron, writer of the show has said:

“I think [Loki] is the struggle with identity, who you are, who you want to be. I’m really drawn to characters who are fighting for control.

"Certainly you see that with Loki over the first ten years of movies, he’s out of control at pivotal parts of his life, he was adopted and everything and that manifests itself through anger and spite towards his family.”

Director of series Sex Education, Kate Herron, will be directing all six episodes of Loki.

Other confirmed Marvel TV series include:

  • What… If? – Summer 2021
  • Hawkeye – Autumn 2021
  • M.O.D.O.K – TBA
  • Moon Knight – TBA
  • Ms. Marvel – TBA
  • She-Hulk – TBA
