Trouble can take may forms.
For Doctors’ Daniel (Matthew Chambers) it has recently taken one form and one form only: that of his teenage daughter, Izzie (Bethan Moore).
The fun begins this week when Daniel nips home at lunchtime to pick up his laptop. Assuming the house to be empty he is surprised to find Izzie, who is supposed to be at school instead sitting on the living room sofa with a slightly older boy.
The boy turns out to be her new boyfriend, Lee Blackwell (Kieran Boon). Daniel is enraged. He angrily sends Lee on his way and immediately confiscates Izzie’s phone.
Back at work, Daniel tells Zara (Elisabeth Dermot Walsh) what happens and despairs. Later, however, father and daughter manage to patch things up surprisingly well.
Daniel gives Izzie her phone back and the two declare a truce.
Things take a turn for the worse again when Daniel and Zara formally meet Lee for a meal. In some ways, Lee does well: he brings a bottle of wine but states he does not drink himself, for example.
On the other hand, he worries both of them by revealing himself to be friends with a member of the notorious local crime family, the Prestons who live on the Churchill Estate.
The situation deteriorates further when Al (Ian Midlane) overhears them having a conversation about this at work and starts taunting them about the Preston family connection.
Zara warns Daniel that nothing is more certain to push Lee and Izzie closer together than any attempt by them to try and keep them apart.
Doctors airs weekdays at 1:45pm on BBC One.
