Luke Perry made his acting debut in a 1982 episode of the
television series Voyagers! He played
the small role of a union prisoner. After a long break, he had another acting
role in a 1988 episode of the television series Loving. Perry landed a recurring role on the daytime drama Another World from 1988 to 1999. He
played the role of Kenny. Perry got his big break when he began playing the
role of Dylan McKay on the TV series Beverly
Hills 90210. The show ran from 1990 to 2000.
Personal life
Perry has had trouble with his health over the years. In May
2017, he revealed he had a cancer scare after a colonoscopy revealed he had
precancerous growths. The Beverly Hills,
90210 star had the colonoscopy in 2015 after partnering with Fight
Colorectal Cancer‘s “One Million Strong” campaign. The initiative might have
saved Perry’s life, as it encourages people to get screened.
“Right now, there are 23 million Americans who haven’t been
screened who need to be screened,” Perry told Fox
News. “If I had waited, it could have been a whole different scenario.” Perry
said he wanted to join the Fight Colorectal Cancer initiative after a friend of
his was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. “When I heard that this was
the most detectable cancer that we know of yet it’s the second most lethal, I
just couldn’t figure out why that was and I wanted to get out there and tell
people about it,” said Perry. In February 2019, Perry had another health scare
after he suffered a stroke.
Luke Perry’s road to acting
Fame didn’t come easily for the TV star. He had to work hard before becoming a household name and teen heartthrob. Before landing a role on the hit show Beverly Hills 90210, Perry struggled to find steady work as an actor. In a 1993 interview, Perry said he auditioned for many TV, film, and commercial roles before being offered a part in a commercial. Up until getting that role, Perry had a construction job and laid down asphalt.
Right before I was cast, I wasn’t doing much of anything, as far as acting goes. I was auditioning for a lot of stuff and I was getting turned down a lot. And in the daytime, I was doing asphalt, making parking lots and stuff. The show has changed my life immeasurably. Life is certainly never going to be the same.
How Luke Perry makes money
Perry makes most of his money from acting. Outside of acting, he participates in product endorsements. He also does some voiceover work.
