Little Mix appear as trio on Jonathan Ross as Jesy Nelson takes extended break

Little Mix reflected on their bond as a band as they appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show without bandmate Jesy Nelson.

Jesy, 29, is ‘having extended time off’ from the band due to private medical reasons.

However, her bandmates Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have continued the promo for their new album Confetti, and appeared as a trio for the filming of this weekend’s Jonathan Ross Show.

The stars sat alongside Joe Wicks and Michael McIntyre – in between plastic guards to ensure their safety and social distancing – on the show, and slayed their respective looks.

Jade, 27, rocked a strapless gold sequinned gown, Leigh-Anne, 29, wore a black and gold printed dress with long sleeves, and Perrie, 27, was serving Barbie realness in a baby pink mini-dress and flicked out hair.

The Break-Up Song stars are celebrating nine years as a band, and discussed their time as a girl group, with Leigh-Anne saying it is everything they had hoped for.

However, Perrie admitted: ‘I don’t think we expected it to be this hard. When you’re young and you think of being a popstar, you think, “Oh I want everyone to love me and ask for my autograph…” then you get thrown into it and you’re like, “Holy s*** balls it’s a lot”.

‘We don’t rest, we don’t sleep. But we love success so we’re willing to work for it and it’s been an amazing 10 years!’

Leigh-Anne added: ‘People don’t see how hard it is, the things that go on behind the scenes. People don’t understand the pressure. People sometimes see popstars and think, “Oh it is glam and glitz”, but really it’s hard.’

Jade, however, bigged up their support networks, saying: ‘We’ve got each other, that’s the beauty of being in a band. We just stay grounded with our friends and family.

‘When we get time off we go straight home and see the family. Our mams would be the first to tell us off if we were getting a bit big headed.’

The girls also discussed their pre-lockdown sixth album Confetti, which has already produced the hits Break-Up Song, Holiday and Sweet Melody, as well as their love lives.

Leigh-Anne discussed how her boyfriend Andre Gray proposed to her, while Jade explained how she got together with Rizzle Kicks star Jordan Stephens during lockdown.

She said: ‘I met someone in lockdown. We met on Zoom. I slid into the DMs. Then we had some Zoom dates.

‘It was through a friend. I slid in the DMs. I’d been doing this for quite a while [sliding into DMs]. I kept getting pied left, right and centre.

‘[Jordan and I] did a few Zoom dates in lockdown. We made a joke and said it was business and put suits and ties on and asked each other questions. I did the full shebang. Then we had a socially distanced date in Greenwich park, apart from each other just chatting.

‘t’s nice doing it that way, we got to know each other. And I’d thought, if this goes terribly I’ll say the wifi’s gone!’

The group will also perform on the show.

This is Little Mix’s latest public appearance as a trio, after Jesy pulled out of the Little Mix: The Search final and hosting the MTV Europe Music Awards due to illness.

Amid reports that the X Factor winners may pursue solo projects, Jade assured fans that the band isn’t going anywhere.

Speaking on Australia’s Hit Radio, the Geordie said: ‘Eventually in the future, we might go off and do our own bits and bobs, but I think Little Mix will literally never die.

‘We’ve always said that. We’re like, we always need Little Mix.’

The Jonathan Ross Show is on at 9.50pm on Saturday on ITV.
