Little Mix admit they were drunk as they made LM5 and reveal making new album was 'like having therapy'

Pop stars Jade Thirwell, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock made the cheeky revelation about being under the influence at an exclusive gig in front of superfans.

They said penning the tracks was "like having therapy" as they wrote about body confidence and negative comments on social media.

In front of crowds at Apple Music Presents: Little Mix Live from London, Jade Thirwall said: "There were a lot of emotional moments in the studio. It's like being in therapy."

Jesy added: "We got drunk when we wrote Strip, which was really fun."

"We got drunk a lot on the whole album," Leigh-Anne Pinnock added.

Jade jokingly scolded her pals, shouting: "Don't tell anyone!"

The four-piece band posed naked with  offensive words written all over their bodies ahead of the release of Strip, which features Sharaya J.

"Writing Strip was a real moment for the four of us," Jade added.

"There had been a few stories at that time and we felt a bit poo.

"We thought of all the things people say about us and we channelled that into a positive song.

"That will be really important to us forever."

At the intimate gig on Tuesday night inside a Dalston venue, Jade broke down in tears while singing Only You.

Little Mix also opened up about their relationship with fame since winning X Factor in 2011.

"Fame has been a mental roller coaster," said Jesy.

"Your emotions are up and down all the time.

"It's crazy, but we wouldn't change it for the world. We're very, very grateful."

When asked how they keep their sanity, the 27-year-old said: "Well, I've got my three best mates.

"If we did this on our own we would go insane.

"I couldn't live without these three."
