Lisa Faulkner had no idea a marriage proposal from partner and MasterChef star John Torode was on the menu as they spent a blissful Christmas together.
Holby City actress turned TV cook Lisa, 46, said “Yes” – and revealed the engagement this week. “My gorgeous John completely surprised me on Christmas Day and asked me to marry him!” she told Instagram followers.
“I feel blessed I’ve got a second chance with a lovely man.”
Meanwhile, John, 53, posted a photo with the sparkler, captioned: “And she said YES!! Bloody love my Lisa… Have put a ring on it.”
But the first people to hear the news were their families.
Lisa said: “We were away so we had our big family Christmas a few days later. We have a blended family with different children from different families so all our
families come together.
“We had such a lovely day. That whole period is about being with family and friends.”
She added: “After waiting to tell our family, we got home and just grinned at each other for days!”
The couple met on Celebrity MasterChef in 2010.
Judge John was so impressed he offered her a job at his London restaurant Smith’s of Smithfield.
They became an item in 2012 a year after dad-of-four John separated from wife Jessica and six months after Lisa and EastEnders actor husband Chris Coghill, who have an adopted daughter, split.
Since then Lisa and Aussie-born John have often appeared together on cooking slots for morning TV.
Lisa said: “I feel very lucky. I acted for years then did Celebrity Masterchef and my whole career turned into cooking. Now I’m able to do both so I’m very blessed.” The couple work together just as well at home too.
“It’s really lovely because John’s a brilliant chef and he knows exactly what he’s doing,” said Lisa.
“I came down on Christmas morning and he’d done all the veg.
“I was like, ‘I was going to do the potatoes.’ He said, ‘You roast them as yours are better than mine.’ “I’m like, just fine, you’ve done all the boring peeling – it works pretty well.”
She says of her future husband: “We get on very well – he’s great, he’s my best mate.
“Happy 2019! It’s going to be quite a year and I’m going to embrace every minute.”
