Line of Duty returned to BBC One in 2019 with season five of the critically-acclaimed police drama. Anti-corruption unit AC-12 was also back on screens with Ted Hastings (played by Adrian Dunbar), Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), and Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) leading a new investigation. The success of Line of Duty has led many viewers to wonder whether or not AC-12 is a real police department.
Is AC-12 from Line of Duty a real police department?
AC-12 is a fictional unit created in BBC crime series Line of Duty.
Line of Duty first introduced the anti-corruption unit in the very first episode of the BBC crime drama.
Their job is to investigate corruption within the police force and charge those responsible.
While AC-12 may not itself be a real unit, there are similar branches in a number of UK police forces.
WHERE IS LINE OF DUTY SEASON 5 FILMED?
Discussing how he gets AC-12 to be as realistic as possible, series writer Jed Mercurio spoke with the Radio Times.
Mercurio said: “I think it’s important to be as close to the right procedures as possible.
“The starting point is with our advisers and I always get excited if we can use something I haven’t seen in any other series.”
In season five, AC-12 are tasked with exposing another inside job with the police force.
Line of Duty’s season five premiere saw John Corbett (Stephen Graham) lead a gang into hijacking a police convoy of drugs.
In the process, three police officers were killed and collusion from within the police needs investigating by AC-12.
Whether AC-12 will be able to expose Corbett and his gang by the end of season five is yet to be seen.

Who stars in Line of Duty season 5?
Compston, McClure, and Dunbar all maintain their places in the Line of Duty cast as AC-12’s three leading figures.
Graham is a newcomer in season five as the new Line of Duty villain.
The 45-year-old actor is most known for his roles in Channel 4’s This is England and HBO series Boardwalk Empire.
The star of Sky One’s Stella Taj Atwal also makes her debut on Line of Duty in season five as PC Tatleen Sohota.
Aiysha Hart is another new Line of Duty addition as Sam.
Other stars to keep an eye out for in Line of Duty season five include Max Dowler as Mark, Stefan Boehm as Aaron, and Ace Bhatti as PCC Rohan Sindwhani.

How to watch Line of Duty season 5 online
Line of Duty season five will be made available to watch online via the BBC iPlayer.
The BBC’s streaming platform will allow fans to watch each episode live online or watch on-demand after they air.
Netflix subscribers can currently watch the first four seasons online, as well.
Whether season five will be made available on the streaming service after it finishes on BBC One is yet to be seen.
