Liam Payne praises ‘fantastic’ mum Cheryl as he struggles to connect with Bear

Liam Payne has dished out the details on his ex partner Cheryl and their son Bear in an eye-opening interview.

He speaks about his private life in an upcoming appearance on the Jonathan Ross show, revealing his struggle to connect with the toddler.

The former One Direction sensation, 26, joins Jonathan Ross on the sofa to talk about being a dad following his split with Cheryl, 36, as well as his boyband days.

The music superstar opens up about Cheryl as a mum, and honoured her for being "awesome".

He says: "She is a fantastic mum, I can't complain, she's absolutely awesome.

"She doesn't get on to me when I'm out working, doing different things, she understands. We do the very same job so it's not that different for us but yeah, she's awesome."

And talking about his son Bear, who he shares with the Geordie sweetheart, he admits he enjoys hanging out with his two-year-old son – although he does find it hard to connect with him.

"He comes over to my house every so often and we just hang out. He is literally the most easy going child," Liam confesses.

"I think you put pressure on yourself as a dad sometimes, especially it's hard to connect with a two year old, they will laugh at anything."

Liam details other new things he has learnt about his little son, adding that: "He has learnt how to say 'sushi' which really bothered me.

"He came in the house and I was eating sushi and he sat on my lap, looked at the table of sushi, took out his dummy and went, 'Mmm, sushis'.

"I didn't know what sushi was until I was 22!"

The popstar also talks about Bear having a very different and privileged upbringing to his own.

Liam says: "Trying to teach your child the value that not every kid gets this sort of thing is going to be the hardest part.

"He lives a very lovely life, he is very loved and cared for and it's just important to teach him these things aren't everything."

Speaking about One Direction, it doesn't look like good news for fans of the former boyband.

He admits it's unlikely there'll be a reunion for at least the next two years.

Liam adds: "All I can say is, through album cycles and single cycles, I see everybody putting songs out at the moment, I don't think for at least the next two years it's going to happen."
