Legendary Neighbours couple Harold Bishop and Madge reunite on Loose Women

Loose Women reunited Neighbours legends Harold and Madge Bishop on the show today (August 16).

Anne Charleston and Ian Smith appeared on the show via a satellite link where they reminisced about their time on the show.

Ian also gave away a big secret from his famous wedding on the show, admitting that it technically wasn’t actually Harold who got married.

“The biggest drama was that I had psoriasis on my hands so they couldn’t do the ring on the finger,” he said. “The director’s hand came in – that wasn’t Harold’s hands!”

Discussing whether he would ever go back, the 80-year-old said: “It’s manners to wait until you’re asked.”

Madge left Neighbours in 2001 when she died from terminal cancer in Harold’s arms.

But despite her death, Madge still made an appearance in 2015 for the soap’s 30-year anniversary.

Harold had a vision about his wife where she encourages him to go on a date with Sheila Canning before bidding him a final goodbye.

Discussing the scene with Nadia Sawalha, Anne said: “We don’t know whether I was a ghost or a figment of his imagination, we can’t decide.”

Ian was one of Neighbours‘ longest-serving stars, joining the soap in 1987.

Across the years, Ian has left and rejoined the soap many times, first departing in 1991 before heading back in 1996.

He left again in 2009 but has since appeared again in brief stints in 2011 and 2015 for the 30th anniversary.

Loose Women is on ITV every weekday at 12.30pm.
