After two photos were released online of actors Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay on-set of Law and Order, a brand new theory has emerged about Stabler’s role in hunting down nemesis Richard Wheatley (played by Dylan McDermott) on Organized Crime. Just how far will Stabler (Meloni) go on the NBC crime drama to hunt down the man that killed his wife? And could his actions affect his budding relationship with former partner Benson (Hargitay)?

A few weeks ago, some on-set photos of actor Christopher Meloni began circulating and fans were in a frenzy as they tried to figure out what they mean for Stabler’s future.

The star was seen with a full beard and in a New York Fire Department uniform.

The sight has led fans to Twitter to theorise if the character will be going undercover in the forthcoming season.

One fan wrote: “I’m here for stabler going all out and going undercover as part of the FDNY.”

Another fan queried: “Stabler as undercover at FDNY? #SVUxOC.”

“Stabler in an fdny uniform???? WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?!” another excited fan exclaimed.

Someone else wondered if the detective’s new look was all a dream, writing: “Why would he be undercover as a fire department emt? I’m guessing dream.” (sic)

Another viewer agreed but was confused as to how a dream sequence would fit into the show: “This is the only thing that crosses my mind bc it just doesn’t make sense at all.”

Could Stabler be going undercover to hunt down Wheatley?

Fans clearly agree that he will be going undercover somehow in season two, but why as a firefighter?

After Wheatley escaped from custody in season one, the character is still on the run so perhaps he has a friend who is a firefighter that is helping him to escape.

Will the villain make it out alive, or will Stabler’s hard work stop him in time?

Sadly, in the series premiere of the sequel series, Stabler’s wife Kathy (Isabel Gillies) was murdered by the crime boss in a car bomb.

The former detective’s desire for revenge led him to join the special task force back in New York to hunt the criminal down and avenge his wife.

But with tensions escalating and Stabler in more danger than ever thanks to Wheatley’s network of criminals, could going undercover prove to be fatal for the beloved character?

However, for season one of Organized Crime, Stabler has had a mission to capture Wheatley but, in the finale, the character managed to escape custody, which left the detective feeling guilty and increasingly angry.

Stabler is still suffering from guilt over failing to save his wife and losing the man who murdered her could push him over the edge.

His need for revenge has audiences worrying about the character’s fate, but others are worried for Wheatley as Stabler has become increasingly volatile.

One fan said on Twitter: “Wheatley better watch out.”

Whether or not Stabler manages to capture the criminal, season two of Organized Crime will surely be an exhilarating ride.

Law and Order: SVU and Law and Order: Organized Crime are both available to watch on NBC in the USA. Season 22 of SVU and season 1 of Organized Crime are currently airing in the UK on Sky Witness and Now TV.
