Kerry Katona in tears as she opens up about death of husband for first time

Kerry Katona spoke publicly for the first time following the death of husband George Kay today.

The former Atomic Kitten singer broke down in tears during her Loose Women appearance this afternoon.

Kerry, 39, revealed that she feared abusive ex George would have kill her or their daughter, DJ when he was alive.

The former I'm A Celeb winner told Coleen Nolan, Stacey Soloman, Janet Street-Porter and Gloria Hunniford that George would spit in her face when she handed over DJ to him and the youngster would then copy.

Kerry said: "I’d hand DJ over to her dad and I would fear I wouldn’t get her back. He would spit in my face and DJ would start to spit in my face.

"I know if I’d have stayed with George I’d be dead. Or DJ would."

The mother-of-five told the panel that she knew George had died the moment she was contacted by George's dad's Facebook account back in July.

The former rugby star was found collapsed at home from a alleged drug overdose.

George's drug abuse had a huge impact on Kerry during their turbulent relationship.

A tearful Kerry told the ladies: "He’s better off where he is. He was so unhappy on this earth.

"He had so many demons, so many issues, we thought when DJ was born he’d change his ways, he had chance after chance.

"He was never going to change, never going to change.”

Kerry said she refused to be blamed for her ex's death during the emotional interview, which was pre-recorded due to it's sensitive nature.

She said: "I left George because of what he was doing.

"I didn’t make him do anything he didn’t want to do. I won’t be blamed for his death."

Panelist Stacey went on to ask the former Eternal Flame hitmaker if she felt any guilt following George's death.

Kerry responded: "I do feel guilty that DJ didn't get to see her dad for a year.

"I'm saying my truth."

The TV personality went on announce that she is 10 years drug free this year.

Kerry is a former Loose Women panelist and often appears on the show as a guest.
