Kelly Clarkson really can do it all and sound great no matter what is going. The "American Idol" alum slayed hosting the Billboard Music Awards Wednesday night, and then immediately flew home for surgery.
Apparently, the singer had been suffering from rather painful appendicitis for the week leading up to the three-hour ceremony, but she was determined to see it through.
It was only after the show was over that Clarkson allowed herself to show any of the pain she was in, admitting to her Twitter followers Thursday afternoon, "I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain."
The singer immediately flew from Las Vegas back to her home in Los Angeles to prepare for surgery to have her appendix removed, which she had done Thursday morning. And Entertainment Tonight reports she fully intends to be on the stage and ready for the live taping of "The Voice" on Monday.
What’s remarkable is that there was absolutely no indication that Clarkson was suffering at all during the awards show. She smiled and laughed her way through it, keeping the energy supportive and positive throughout. On top of that, she even performed … twice!
She may not have planned for it when she had the lyrics for her new song "Broken & Beautiful" — from the film "Ugly Dolls" — displayed on a huge screen behind her, but one moment from that performance sums it up better than we ever could:
