Kellie Bright reveals how Linda's alcohol storyline saved an EastEnders fan

EastEnders star Kellie Bright has opened up about how her character in the BBC soap has helped save a fan’s life.

Kellie’s character Linda Carter has been battling alcoholism for months and her heart-wrenching illness has not only put her own life at risk, but has put a strain on her husband Mick’s mental health and endangered their son Ollie.

‘Someone at work recently told me about her godson who had been removed from his family home because his mother is an alcoholic,’ Kellie told The Mirror’s Talk TV, addressing the impact of her storyline.

‘He is only about 11 or something but since he has been removed, he has not spoken at all.

‘But I was told he has been watching the show and he has actually started to talk again. She told me that story with tears in her eyes.’

Kellie continued to the publication: ‘This is the impact that the storyline has had.

‘I do believe the soap has the incredible ability to reach millions and millions of people on a level that perhaps others don’t.’

Spoilers for upcoming scenes have revealed that Linda struggles to keep off the booze, prompting her and Mick to make a major decision about their future.

Whether they sell the Queen Vic or move out of Albert Square entirely remains to be seen, but we’ll no doubt be tuning in to find out.
