Katie Piper closely guarded by protection officer on her Strictly break with Gorka Marquez after learning acid attacker is set to go free

The TV presenter, 34, was seen grabbing a coffee between rehearsals in London with her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez, 28.

The Sun revealed Strictly bosses promised Katie extra security amid fears Stefan Sylvestre could find her after his imminent release.

A TV source said: “Producers are keen to reassure Katie that her safety is paramount.”

Model Katie was left severely scarred on her face and upper body in the attack in Golders Green, North London, in 2009.

Sylvestre, 30, was jailed for a minimum of six years for throwing acid at Katie. Her ex Daniel Lynch, 39, who ordered the attack, got at least 16 years.

She made a plea to the parole board last month not to release Sylvestre. But they ruled he can walk out of jail “within weeks”, adding: “He displayed empathy for the victim and expressed remorse.”

The TV source said: “Strictly have discussed security with Katie and she has voiced her worries.

“They told her that they will do all they can to ensure she is safe at all times. She decided against attending the press day but is putting on a brave face for the show.

“Off-camera she keeps a very low profile. Now she is on Strictly it’s going to be tougher, but part of the conditions of her being on the show was they understood this.”

Katie was paired with Gorka on the Strictly launch show last week. It returns to BBC One on September 22.

A Strictly spokeswoman said yesterday: “We always have extensive security measures in place to protect our cast, crew and audience, and the arrangements are reviewed regularly.”
