Kate Beckinsale rules out doing another Underworld movie

If you were waiting for Underworld 6, we’ve got bad news, as Kate Beckinsale has ruled out doing another Underworld movie.

Beckinsale last played vampire Death Dealer Selene in 2016’s Underworld: Blood Wars, but that’s it for her. “I wouldn’t return. I’ve done plenty of those,” she told Variety when asked if she would ever make another sequel.

Last year, it was revealed that producer Len Wiseman – who co-created the movie franchise – was working on a TV series based on the movies, one that would be a “pretty big departure”, so Beckinsale’s comments seemingly rule out any appearance in that.

She was married to Wiseman, but the couple ended their 12-year relationship in 2016, shortly before the release of Underworld: Blood Wars.

Beckinsale also reflected on the time she almost played Wonder Woman in the mid-2000s, potentially in Joss Whedon’s version.”Yes, there was a period of time, a long time ago, when [producer] Joel Silver was involved with it,” she recalled.

But she doesn’t regret not playing Wonder Woman and praised the “wonderful film” that Gal Gadot did, adding: “It would have been a terrible movie based on the script that I read.”

Beckinsale will next be seen in ITV drama The Widow, from the writers behind Liar and The Missing, which sees her play a woman named Georgia Wells who finds out via a phone call that her husband of 10 years has died in a plane crash in the Congo.
