Karl Urban 'had talks' about Judge Dredd TV series, but still hasn't signed up

It’s safe to say that comic book hero Judge Dredd hasn’t had the best luck on the big screen, with one terrible film and rather good one that totally flew under the public’s radar.

But a TV series titled Mega-Force One is in the works, and while we don’t know too much about it at the moment, it looks like we shouldn’t rule out Karl Urban, the star of the 2012 movie (the good one).

Speaking at Trekonderoga (via TrekMovie), the actor said: “I’m not attached to it, although I did have a preliminary round of conversations with them. I am interested in doing it. There are a lot of great stories to tell there.

“It is up to them. I don’t know really where they are in the stages of development. If I get the opportunity, great, otherwise someone else will do it, and we can all see some more Judge Dredd. I did read the comics when I was a kid, as I teenager I read Judge Dredd a lot.”

We can tell you how far (ish) they are in development. Back in July, the pilot script was reported as completed, with two years of stories mapped out. So they’re probably even further along than that now.

On what he knows about the show’s premise, Urban added: “Their idea for Mega-City One was basically to build the show around more rookie judges and young, new judges and Dredd would come in and out and I said that I’ll do it, but it has to be done in a meaningful way.

“I can’t just come on and grunt and pull faces, there has to be a story there for him. There has to be a kind of little arc and a story we are trying to tell. So, we will see what they do.”

Mega-City One is set to be released on Netflix.
