'Jersey Shore' Star Vinny Guadagnino Lost 50 Pounds Thanks to a Controversial Diet

Vinny Guadagnino rose to fame on Jersey Shore 10 years ago. He recently returned to the iconic reality series on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, though these days, Guadagnino is also making headlines for something else: his impressive body transformation.

Guadagnino has lost 50 pounds and gained a muscular, toned body, and he isn’t secretive about his method. The 31-year-old star has been following a controversial diet to achieve this result. Read on below to find out what diet Guadagnino is promoting and what the experts have to say about it.

Vinny Guadagnino has been on the Keto diet for a few years

Since 2017, Guadagnino has documented his Keto diet journey on his Instagram account: KetoGuido.

The Keto diet promotes eating fewer carbs but more fat and protein, and Guadagnino has been following exactly that. He is often seen eating meals such as steak, eggs and bacon, and bun-less burgers.

According to a recent Instagram post, Guadagnino shared that thanks to the Keto diet, he has been able to stay lean and muscular for four to five years. He also did it by “flipping the traditional food pyramid upside down and finding a way of eating that’s enjoyable, satisfying, healthy, and one that never requires me to go on a ‘diet.’”

Some other celebrities are also on board with Guadagnino and swear by the Keto diet. Jenna Jameson reportedly lost more than 60 pounds after giving birth thanks to the Keto diet. She has become a huge advocate for the diet and says that she is “living my best life.”

Likewise, Kourtney Kardashian also expressed that her body “never looked better” when she was doing the Keto diet a couple of years ago.

However, there are celebrities who have tried the Keto diet and are very skeptical about it. For example, Tamra Judge admitted she “fell off the Keto wagon”, sharing: “I’m sure it works, but I cannot wrap my brain around eating that much fat. Bad fat — cheese, sour cream, butter, all that stuff. So, I like to do the good fats — like I’ll do the avocado, but I’m not gonna drown my eggs in butter and throw the cheese on top of it.”

Gina Kirschenheiter does not like the fat promotion aspect of the Keto either, calling it “a slippery slope” into eating unhealthy stuff.

People are clearly divided on the Keto diet with some claiming good results from it and others labeling it as simply a “fad.”

According to Dr. Marcelos Campos from Harvard Medical School, because the Keto diet is all about eating a lot of protein and fat, a risk for participants is “that many people tend to eat too much protein and poor-quality fats from processed foods, with very few fruits and vegetables.” Additionally, eating a lot of red meat from beef and pork (as Guadagnino does) is potentially very unhealthy.

Dr. Campos does point out that people indeed do lose weight faster on the Keto diet, so that could be good news for anyone who wants to shed a few pounds. However, it’s important to note that “that difference in weight loss seems to disappear over time” when compared with other diets out there.

This is because the Keto diet is restrictive in what one can eat, making it very hard to stick to in the long run. And, as many health experts have advised, the best diet is one that can become a part of a person’s life for as long as they live.
