Jean-Christophe Novelli saw tears in baby son’s eyes during cancer battle

Jean-Christophe Novelli has celebrated the second birthday of his son after he was finally given the all clear from cancer.

Valentino was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, at just ten-weeks-old.

But two years later the happy and healthy boy appeared on This Morning with his famous dad and mum Michelle Kennedy.

The Hell’s Kitchen star explained that the only communication he had with his young son during his cancer battle was eye contatct.

So it was heartbreaking to see tears in his baby’s eyes while he went through chemotherapy in hospital.

Speaking on This Morning, Jean said: "Having your baby at 10-weeks-old going through this experience – all you have is their eye contact. You could see his tears."

This made it all the more special when Jean saw the joy in his son when they celebrated his milestone birthday.

He said: "When everyone was singing happy birthday you could see in his eyes he was enjoy it for the first time ever."

The celebrity chef’s son proved he is fighting fit by slapping his dad live on air.

He was quickly entertained by a toy given as a birthday present from Phil and Holly.

Revealing his ordeal, Michelle said: "He had tumours all around his neck like a coil of snakes. It was awful – too dangerous to operate on. It’s still in his neck but shrunk right down with the chemotherapy.

"He coped like all the other children we met a the hospital. They really suffer with it. It’s horrendous sickness and blisters. It’s a poison isn’t it. It’s just so awful."

Mum Michelle almost died from a blood clot during her bedside vigil for Valentino and spent 10 days way from her baby.

Praising his partner, Jean said: "We were not ready for this, we had not been trained. How we coped? I don’t know. Michelle is the one who did the biggest job."
