Jane the Virgin Stars Get Emotional During Series' Final Table Read: 'Tears of Gratitude'

The tears are flowing for the cast of Jane the Virgin as the series nears its final episode.

In a selfie shared to Instagram by Justin Baldoni on Wednesday evening, he, Gina Rodriguez and Yael Grobglas are visibly in tears, with the actor writing, “Five years of cast table reads every week … this was the last one.”

“Ends are always hard. We’ve grown up together. Been through massive life moments together. Through joy and pain. These are real friendships. Not ‘show friendships,’ ” he continued. “It’s the end of an era but the beginning of so many incredible things.

Baldoni said the series “has given birth to so much beauty in all of our lives” as well as “tears” — “But they are tears of gratitude,” wrote the star, who plays Rafael Solano on the hit CW dramedy. “I’m going to miss this family. I’m ready for what’s next … but not quite yet. We have three more weeks together.”

“I will savor them. I will enjoy them,” Baldoni vowed. “I will appreciate them as I appreciate all of you. For watching us every week and letting us into your homes and your hearts. For binging and sharing and following our journeys. Without you this doesn’t exist. Thank you. For everything. Love, a very sentimental Justin.”

Grobglas’ own post on Wednesday consisted of a two-photo set, the first showing her looking emotional while posing with her script in a stairwell, followed by an up-close shot of the script and a paper plate covered in used tissues, with the tissue box close by.

“Just had our last table read for #janethevirgin. After crying nonstop for 1.5 hours I’m gonna go pass out,” wrote Grobglas, who plays Petra on the show. “Too many feelings.”

In December, PEOPLE confirmed an in-the-works spin-off of Jane the Virgin that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will “follow a storyline from the flagship series” but feature a new cast. Jane the Virgin scribe Valentina Garza will write and serve as executive producer alongside Rodriguez, 34, and showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman.

Titled Jane the Novela, the new show will be a telenovela anthology series where each season is based on a different fictional novel written and narrated by Jane. The first installment reportedly takes place at a vineyard in Napa Valley, surrounding mysterious family secrets.

“It is fantastic. The pilot is unbelievable,” Rodriguez said of the spin-off during the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association press tour in January. “We hope we can give something just as great as we did with Jane the Virgin.”

Jane the Virgin airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST on the CW.
