James Charles reveals feud with Tati Westbrook left him in 'dark place' as he admits refusing to meet her face to face

JAMES Charles has refused to meet Tati Westbrook after falling into a "dark place" following her allegations that he sexually manipulated straight men.

The 19-year-old make-up artist has updated fans on YouTube and explained he denied her request for a face to face meeting because she ignored him for three weeks when he originally wanted to talk to her off camera.

The pair have traded their sides of the feud on YouTube ever since and in his last update, James has said: "Within the past few days pretty much everyone in this situation has tried to reach out to me. Tati and her husband have tried to reach out to schedule a meeting but through a mutual YouTube rep that we share.

"This whole thing has been really difficult for me because throughout the past three weeks all I've asked for was communication. I tried hard to get that but I didn't, so I declined the meetings."

He went on: "The last few weeks of my life has literally been the most painful I've had to deal with. My head and brain, for a hot minute, went to a place so dark that I didn't think I was going to come back from.

"Right now I need time and space to get my head back."

Tati, 37, released a video on Thursday and wept as she told viewers she didn't expect the level of hate that James received after she accused him of being disloyal and sexually harassing straight men.

Speaking about her reasons for her initial outburst about her former friend and protege, that went viral, she said: "'It was me trying to reach someone that was completely unreachable.

"It's about someone who reaches, across all platforms, 30 million people that are predominantly children. He is losing the ability to get honest more and more each day. I'm losing the ability to reach [out to him]."

She added that she has tried to meet up with him to sort it out face to face and wants people to "love" him and forgive him.

She said later in the 18 minute video: "I still love him. I loved him from the moment I saw him. He was this underdog kid, who a lot of people took a s**t on and I felt like I needed to help him. Like it was helping me."

Last week, Tati said she grew tired of always having to apologise for James’ actions in public, which apparently included everything from saying derogatory things about other influencers and allegedly sexually harassing straight men.

She said in her video: "You tried to trick a straight man into thinking he's gay, yet again, and somehow you're the victim.

"You know, it's really disgusting to manipulate someone's sexuality, especially when they are still emerging into adulthood and don't quite have everything figured out.

"You are using your fame, your power, your money to play with people's emotions.

Her claims were so controversial that fans instantly flocked to watch the video, which accumulated an astounding 35 million views in just two days.

Within hours of the video being posted on her channel, James Charles suffered a drastic decline in subscribers, having lost a total of 1.5 million loyal followers.

The number of lost subscribers spiked to 3 million four days after the scandal broke and Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner were among those who unfollowed him.

James made a response video which he simply titled as “tati”.

In the clip, the makeup star apologise for his actions – not just to Tati, but to the people he’s hurt on social media in the past.

He shed tears when discussing his mother's ongoing support for him while dealing with the aftermath of Tati's controversial YouTube video.

James explained: “A lot of the time when I’ve had to address things in the past, I’ve acted out of impulse and I’ve gone off and tried to pull receipts or facts or screenshots and play the victim and I’m not doing that today, I’m not.

"That is all I have to say, I’m sorry.”
