Jacqui Lambie and SBS crew caught in ISIS attack in Syria

Jacqui Lambie and an SBS crew have found themselves caught up in an ISIS attack in Syria while filming Go Back To Where You Came From Live.

The crew had been filming outside a Syrian police compound when it came under fire from multiple gunmen, SBS says.

Dramatic footage shared by SBS shows the former Tasmanian senator, crew members and their security escort fleeing upstairs into the building.

Marina, a Sydney immigration lawyer Lambie was paired with for the SBS series, said the group were "confronted with some unfriendly fire".

"We had to be taken out of our vehicles and into a safe building… Don't know who was fighting who, all we hear is gunshots, people running," she says in a quiet moment in the footage.

According to SBS, local police reported the gunmen as IS fighters and said "as many as 10 IS gunmen were killed" during the subsequent shootout with police.

Lambie, seen in the footage wearing a headscarf and sunglasses, appears composed amid the confusion and tells Marina she has no fear in the moment.

"You're being targeted and you're totally fine with that?" Marina asks.

"I just believe when my day is up, it's up," she replies. "It's that simple with me. It's just my faith in God."

Lambie, who infamously called for an end to Muslim immigration in Australia, had previously said she was going into the series with an “open mind”.

"What I'm about to do will put me to the test. It could introduce some clarity that I may need," she said about her stint on the show.

Go Back to Where You Came From Live airs on SBS over three nights, beginning on Tuesday.
