ITV’s boss Kevin Lygo has lifted the lid on some dramatic goings on this winter in the village of Emmerdale as he outlined the channel’s Christmas and New Year highlights.
As well as Coronation Street’s 60th anniversary and another annual edition of the Big Soap Quiz, he also revealed what fans can expect from everyone’s favourite fictional, disaster prone village.
He teased: ‘Priya is very much loved up with Al – but he seems distracted by someone else away from the village.
‘We also have the big return of Kim Tate and a new family brings lots of drama.’
The new family has previously been revealed as a black family for the show while Lygo also mentioned the controversial storyline involving Jai Sharma and Laurel Thomas terminating their pregnancy after discovering their baby will have Down’s Syndrome.
Previously, producer Laura Shaw revealed to Metro.co.uk: ‘We’ve got a really big fun Christmas and New Year coming up, and it’s jam-packed full of romance, disaster, comedy, heartbreak, shock twists and turns!
‘A huge secret is going to come out in a truly magnificent way that’s going to make everybody gasp, I promise you!
‘We’ve just finished storylining a massive chapter in our big Mandy, Paul and Vinny story that’s on-screen now.
‘Keep watching to see how that plays out, because it’s going to be one of our really big stories in 2021. Lives are definitely going to be changed forever.

‘There is more to come with Laurel and Jai. Their story does not end with their termination, so they’re going to be feeling the effects of the decision they’ve made for quite a lot of next year.
‘Jimmy and Nicola are going to get a really big shock in the New Year, which results in their whole lives being turned upside down.
‘We’ve got more secrets revealed between Luke and Victoria. That’s going to have a big impact on their relationship.
‘We’ve got some really exciting things planned for Home Farm and Kim. We’re probably going to see a slightly more vulnerable Kim, actually. And we’ll see a change in the dynamic of the Tate family, could there be a new heir to the throne?! I can’t say, I can’t say!’
