Iron Fist season 2 ends with a huge twist for Danny Rand and fans are split

Warning! This article contains spoilers for the season two finale of Iron Fist. Proceed with caution.

Iron Fist‘s second season may have only just been better than the first (in our humble opinion), but no-one can deny that its ending has certainly shaken things up for season three.

The Marvel TV series ended with a big change of direction for the character of Iron Fist, as Finn Jones’ Danny Rand contemplated his reasons for the wielding the power of the Fist.

With the Fist safe from Davos and his murderous rampage, Danny instead convinced Colleen Wing to take over and become the Iron Fist through an ancient ritual.

Fans of the original Iron Fist comics will know that female Iron Fists have existed, but this is the first time in the Marvel-verse that Colleen has taken on the mantel – and the first time we’ve seen a properly white Fist, instead of a yellow one, too.

Viewers were left completely split by Danny’s decision to leave New York to go and find himself (and the Fist), with reactions veering from thrilled to straight-up confused.

“I feel like #IronFist finally listened to us,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “I am satisfied with the ending,” they continued, while another proclaimed the ending “BLEW [THEIR] MIND”.

Others were full of praise for the implications of the “interesting ending”, arguing that Danny’s decision completely undid “any perceived ‘white savior complex’ ideas”.

Some weren’t convinced, however, with one viewer suggesting the series had been influenced by the concerns of people “who probably haven’t even read an IF comic”.

“I thought the cast of #ironfist were great. I thought the writing was not,” another agreed. “And the ending was even worse. Shame the writers wasted such a group of talented actors.”

So, uh, no pressure, Marvel.

The second season of Iron Fist is available to stream on Netflix now.
