I’m A Celeb’s Joel Dommett talks “hideous online abuse” after Scarlett Moffatt bullied on Twitter

Scarlett Moffatt’s I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp co-host and friend, Joel Dommett, has paid tribute to the presenter and former Gogglebox star after she was targeted by horrid social media bullies.

Following her appearance on Love Island: Aftersun, Scarlett was hit with criticism on Twitter about the way she looks.

“Feel like I can’t even film tv shows without hating the way that I look after – from constantly being attacked because of my size and my appearance!” she wrote at the time.

Now her pal Joel has spoken out about the horrific comments that come from online thugs and supported Scarlett, who he dubbed the “loveliest human being I’ve ever worked with”.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Joel said: “It’s just become part and parcel of your life really, which is ridiculous, why you should have to sort of go that ‘part of my life is that I get hideously abused online?’

“It’s weird how Twitter has become this horrible negative place, essentially the President of the United States has made it into a horrendous place.

“So I really feel for Scarlett, they just target her and it’s really horrible and being on a show with her and the things that people say is just horrendous and she’s just the loveliest human being I’ve ever worked with.

“She’s so kind and generous and talented and so hard-working, there’s so many people that I’ve worked with and they’re lazy and don’t pull their weight at all and Scarlett is completely not like that.

“She is just so great and she really puts everything into everything that she does. I think this is the problem, the things that people say online, they don’t actually know the person that they’re talking about.

“If they all actually spent a day with her they’d realise that she’s a really genuinely lovely human being. It’s just a shame that they don’t know her for real.”

Since I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!‘s Ant McPartlin has decided to step back from presenting the show this year to focus on his recovery from his prescription drug and alcohol addiction, both Joel and Scarlett have been tipped to replace him and co-host with Declan Donnelly.

Joel spoke to Digital Spy about the idea of replacing Ant McPartlin, while we’ve rounded up all of the potential co-hosts, including Stephen Mulhern and Love Island stars.

While the I’m A Celeb presenting line-up is resolved, Joel Dommett has plenty to keep him busy, as he’s set to take on a huge Gatecrasher challenge at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival in order to raise money and awareness for Stand Up To Cancer.

Speaking about the stunt, Joel said: “I’m basically trying to do a hundred gigs in a day, that’s by whatever means necessary really, just going from gig to gig and trying my best to say something different at a hundred gigs in a day. I’m going to start early and then go all the way until early in the four in the morning. Just be trying my best to do it.

“It’s a really important charity for me and as we all know, we’re all affected by cancer at some point in our lives and so, anything I can do to help is great. They’re really great and really supportive for what I want to do, so hopefully they’ll bring some awareness and hopefully a bit of money to a great cause.”

The challenge will see him try and perform 100 shows across 24 hours for the charity on the August 16. Stand Up To Cancer is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. For more information or to donate to Stand Up To Cancer head to standuptocancer.org.uk/gatecrasher.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is due to air later this year on ITV.
