I’m A Celebrity’s Harry Redknapp tells adorable tale of how he met wife Sandra

Harry Redknapp opened up to John Barrowman about what happened between him and his wife Sandra, in an adorable story of how they met.

John and Harry had a chat by the creek after they went to get wood for the camp.

Talking in the Bush Telegraph, John said “We needed to get wood for the campfire so Harry and I went down to collect some wood and we had one of the loveliest talks I’ve had in a long time.”

Harry told John a story about how he met his wife of 54 years Sandra at an East End dance club called Two Puddings.

“Me and my mate Macca, he was a goal keeper for West Ham saw these two lovely girls and I said to Macca shall we have a dance with those two.

"Macca is a good looking geezer and I look back on it now and think Sandra must have seen us both coming over and thought ‘I hope I aint got him’ and she went for me, 54 years later we’re still going strong.

"And Macca ended up as an undertaker so really Sandra had the better deal in the long term.” smiled Harry.

John then told Harry about how he met his husband Scott, which involved him meeting Cher.

He explained: “I was in Sunset Boulevard at the time and I invited Scott to come and see me and we’d then go out for a meal. Well that night we were meant to go out I get a call from someone who said they had Cher on the line.

"She’d seen the show the night before and wanted to take me out for dinner. I said ‘that’s amazing, but I can’t go’. I spoke to Cher and told her why and she said no one had ever turned her down before so bring Scott along.

"So our first date was with Cher.” smiled John.

Talking later in the Bush Telegraph, Harry said “While John was having dinner with Cher I was with Sandra at the Two Puddings, I know who got the best of the deal.”

Harry has previously spoken out about his wife, saying he "hates" being away from her.

He said: "That’s the biggest problem I have got. We do everything together. I have been with Sandra for 54 years and I hate being away from her.

Five decades ago she was a hairdresser making £1.50 for a wash and set, while he was just starting out with West Ham and stacked supermarket shelves in the evening to bring in more cash.

Their first fateful meeting happened at a Sunday night disco at the Two Puddings pub in Stratford, when a then 17-year-old Harry plucked up the courage to ask her to dance.

"I was just like, you know… she was just lovely," the 71-year-old once told the Daily Mail.

I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here continues everyday at 9pm and at 9.30pm on Saturdays on ITV.
