I’m A Celeb fix storm as star claims they’re given cigarettes and phone calls

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is in the middle of a fix storm after a former campmate claimed they were given cigarettes and allowed to make phone calls home.

Keira Maguire, who took part in the Australian version of the show in 2017, claims the stars were given secret luxuries off camera, including make-up and protein bars to give them a boost of energy ahead of challenges.

The Bachelor contestant also says contestants could go off to a special area of the campsite – in the South African jungle – to smoke cigarettes, and that they were allowed to contact their families back home in Australia, although that this was only allowed in emergency situations.

She told WHO magazine: "If anyone had a situation at home that came up while we were in there, then they were allowed to talk to a producer who would call home for them and relay messages back."

Kiera also claimed that the most famous celebs in the camp were given special treatment by bosses from Channel 10, which broadcasts the show.

She said: "There are certainly some names in there treated better than others, and that’s usually Channel 10’s own talent."

Some English celebrities have taken part in the Australian version of the show, including Vicky Pattison, who was our Queen of the Jungle in 2015, and Princess Diana’s butler Paul Burrell, who appeared on the same series in 2018.

On the most recent series of the UK show, filmed in Australia, eventual winner Harry Redknapp made everyone laugh with his misunderstanding of how it worked.

Having never watched the ITV show, he said he believed a director would shout "cut" and the campmates would all head back behind the "set" to the trailers to tuck into bacon sandwiches.

And he couldn’t quite believe it when he realised how wrong he was.
