I thought I’m going to die’ Gino D’Acampo details terrifying racing crash from new series

Gordon, Gino and Fred: American Road Trip returns at the beginning of April and the trio will be driving through Mexico, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Texas. But Gino has revealed that not everything went to plan and there was a moment he thought he was going to die.

Gordon Ramsay, Gino and Fred Siriex return next month with their American road trip after the show’s inception in 2018.

The last time viewers saw the three together, the men were travelling around Europe going on weird and wonderful adventures, tasting the local cuisine as they went.

But as the trio return to screens, they reflected on a terrifying crash which took place while filming in Mexico.

The boys found themselves in hot water after taking desert buggies around a race track, whilst their RV was parked in the middle of the track.

Gordon told Radio Times: “They warned us: one more incident and we’d be banned from the track.”

But that didn’t deter them as Gordon continued: “We hit the first corner, and we got told to moderate our speed, I backed off and all of a sudden, Gino’s car shot past me.

“He lost control, hit the RV and there’s paramedics, gas everywhere, a tyre burst…”

Reflecting on the crash, Gino added: “I saw the RV coming very close, and I thought, ‘OK, that’s it.’

“I was going 70 or 80 miles an hour, and when I hit it I thought, ‘This is over now. I’m going to die.’

“The thing that scared me the most is that my fuel-tank burst and I had petrol all over me.”

Gordon went on to explain that Gino was very lucky because he hit the RV side on, so it could have been a lot worse.

Gino wasn’t injured but it was a full 24 hours before he was able to start filming again.

Meanwhile fans of the trio know they joke with one another constantly, however, Gino insisted none of it was scripted.

“This is banter. A lot of it is us being out of our comfort zone,” he told the publication.

The This Morning star added if that were to be taken out the show would “disintegrate into something a little bit fake”.

Fred added viewers wanted to see “real” moments between the chefs.

Unfortunately for fans about 40 percent of what is filmed for the show doesn’t make the final edit.

Gino explained it was too outrageous as Gordon noted his co-stars stripped in front of his mother.

“They (Gino and Fred) were terrible, they went through my bedroom, through [wife] Tana’s drawers and then jumped in my pool, stark naked, in front of my poor mum,” he detailed.

“Ten years ago my mum, who smoked for 40 years, had a heart bypass and they nearly gave her another heart attack.”
