How to apply for Race Across the World series three – The Sun

RACE Across the World has just opened applications.

Here's how you can get involved and get yourself out and across the planet on the ultimate race.

How to apply for Race Across the World series three?

Applications for series three of the BBC2 travel competition are now open, with the closing date set for 31st May 2020.

BBC Two are inviting those who reckon they can “travel smartly, haggle for the best deals, charm complete strangers and do it all faster than your rivals” to apply for the next series.

Although the coronavirus pandemic is currently affecting travel across the globe, BBC Two plan to film another series of Race Across the World “as soon as it is safe to do so”.

Those wanting to apply can fill out an online application on the website, or email Studio Lambert – the show’s production company.

What happened in series two?

Filmed last September, the second series began airing March 8, 2020.

Five teams set off on a 25,000km race down South America, that took around two months.

In the show, contestants are given the cost of an airfare – £1,453 each in S2 – but no flights or smartphones are allowed as they race to the destination.

They started in Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City and had to get to the most southerly city in the world – Ushuaia, Argentina – in just two months.

Teams had to pass through 7 checkpoints in Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and Chile.

Normally there is a no-fly rule in place, but producers had to make an exception due to civil unrest in Ecuador, so all the teams were flown from Colombia to Peru to continue the race.

Sunday’s episode saw uncle-and-nephew duo Emon, 35 and Jamiul, 25, beat the other teams by just 20 seconds, after setting off from Mexico City 54 days before.

The pair recently pledged to donate £10,000 to the street children they came across whilst travelling through Sao Paulo, Brazil, during the competition.

A Race Across the World reunion special will air Sunday May 4 at 8pm on BBC Two.
