Hollyoaks lines up huge 2019 storyline for Home and Away star Kyle Pryor

Hollyoaks bosses have revealed that former Home and Away star Kyle Pryor will have one of the show’s biggest storylines next year.

The actor, best known for playing Nate Cooper in the Summer Bay soap, recently joined the regular cast of Hollyoaks and will make his first appearance on screen in a few weeks’ time.

In his big new interview with Digital Spy, Hollyoaks‘ executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has now tipped Kyle as one to watch.

Kyle’s character Laurie Shelby – the husband of Sinead O’Connor – will feature in an important issue-based storyline next year. He’ll also be working closely with Sally St Claire at the new-look Hollyoaks High.

Bryan told Digital Spy: “We’re very lucky to have Kyle in the show. He started filming with us a few weeks ago and his performances are remarkable. Kyle is playing Laurie Shelby, who’s the husband of Sinead O’Connor.

“Laurie will be the new deputy headteacher of Hollyoaks High and he’ll be at the heart of one of our biggest stories for 2019. It’s a really huge, real-life story.”

Discussing the importance of Hollyoaks reflecting real-life issues, the show’s chief added: “Telling real-life, zeitgeist storylines about issues that are happening to our audience right now has become a USP for Hollyoaks. They work very well for us – and two of our biggest stories of the next year will be real-life issue storylines.

“They’ll continue to dominate in the show, but we feel those stories need to be balanced alongside the big, blockbuster ‘can only happen in Hollyoaks‘ stories as well. The audience come to us for escapism and then really enjoy the issue-based storylines too.”

Kyle’s casting in Hollyoaks was announced last month. He played Home and Away‘s Nate between 2013 and 2017.

Speaking before he started filming, the actor commented: “I am really excited about heading over to the UK to begin work on Hollyoaks, looking forward to meeting the cast and crew and getting things rolling.”

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
