Holly Willoughby reveals Simon Cowell told her doing This Morning would be a MISTAKE

The TV star made the revelation during tonight's special show to celebrate thirty years of This Morning.

Holly was working for Simon at the time presenting Xtra Factor when it was announced Phillip Schofield's co-host Fern Briton was leaving This Morning in 2009.

Holly and Phil were already working together hosting Dancing On Ice, so she was the obvious choice for Fern's replacement.

But there was still one person she needed to tell.

Holly recalled: "I remember I was doing Xtra Factor and it got to the point where we had to let Simon Cowell know that I was coming to do This Morning, and he said 'I think that would be a really big mistake'."

She then added: "He got that wrong!"

It was also revealed Holly got the job at co-host Phillip's insistence.

Phil recalled: "I'd said I'm not doing it with anyone else, it has to be you [Holly] or I'm not doing it."

To which Holly replied: "And that I have to thank you for, because if it wasn't for you, there is no doubt I wouldn't be doing this."

The twosome have proved a big hit over the last nine years doing the show together.

Yesterday viewers were left in hysterics when Holly and Phill looked back at the show's naughtiest moments.

An amazing montage of innuendos over the years was shown as part of the show’s 30th birthday celebrations.

The round-up, which also featured other presenters like Fern and Ruth Langsford, included some of the classic moments which left them losing it live on air.

It included Fern’s infamous “dunking beef”  joke which happened in 2008 and has gone down in This Morning history.

During the clip, Fern turned to Phillip during a conversation about roast dinners and said: “So… you don’t mind dunking a bit of beef, do you?”

Another memorable moment was from 2016 when Holly was presenting with Ben Shepherd and she made a very funny blooper while talking about the time she “welly wanged”.
