Holly Willoughby reveals one star told her doing This Morning was a ‘mistake’

Holly Willoughby has revealed one of her valued former colleagues warned her off taking up the job on This Morning.

The host, who has co-hosted the ITV morning show with Phillip Schofield for nine years, revealed on the show’s 30th anniversary special that her former boss, Simon Cowell, told her it would be a "big mistake" for her to take on the role.

She was working at Xtra Factor when it was announced that Phil’s co-host Fern Briton was leaving This Morning in 2009, and went to have a word with him.

Holly revealed: "I remember I was doing Xtra Factor and it got to the point where we had to let Simon cowell know that Iw as coming todo This Moning, and he said ‘I think that would be a really big mistake.’

"He got that wrong!"

Phil then revealed it was partly to do with his input that Holly got the job, as the pair were already hosting Dancing on Ice together.

He said: "I’d said I’m not doing it with anyone else, it has to be you or I’m not doing it."

Holly replied: "And that I have to thank you for, because if it wasn’t for you, there is no doubt wouldn’t be doing this."

The pair spoke about their hosting on the show’s 30th anniversary special, where they also relived some of the best moments – from the heartwarming guests who brought tears to their eyes, to the hilarious blunders which left them in stitches.

Extra to their interviews, hosts new and old spoke out about their time on the show, with people such as Judy Finnigan, Richard Madeley, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes speaking out about their experiences on the show.

The celebrations continue with a celebratory 30th anniversary episode today (Wednesday 3 October) from 10.30am on ITV.
