Has Thomas Atkinson left Emmerdale and what happened to Lachlan White?

Let’s find out…

Has Thomas Atkinson left Emmerdale for good?

Thomas Atkinson played twisted teen killer Lachlan White from November 2014 until September 2018.

He left the soap when Lachlan was exposed as a serial killer with a string of murders under his belt.

Thomas recorded an exit video for fans which seemed to confirm that he’s left Emmerdale for good.

He said: “So, after all this time, after everything Lachlan has done, it's all finally caught up with him.

"For the last four-and-a-half years, I've kinda grown up here. That's the way I see it.

“I’ve figured it out — I've spent a quarter of my life here, which is a long time…” the actor continued. “The fan base has been amazing. They've shown me support."

But while Thomas confirmed he was bowing out for now, he hinted that his evil character could return for a trial next year.

He added: “Will he be back? I don’t know. You’ll have to ask the soap gods about that. I mean, he’s not dying. He’s going to prison. There could be a trial. You know, we don’t know? We’ll have to see.”

What happened to Lachlan and how was he caught?

Lachlan is currently in prison where he’s been told he will be staying for ‘a very long time.’

During his murder spree, Lachlan killed his mum and granddad, Chrissie and Lawrence White, his best friend Gerry Roberts and a conman who pretended to be Gerry’s uncle.

He also tried to kill rival Robert Sugden and Liv Flaherty after thinking she was onto him.

Fans believed he had killed his aunt Rebecca twice but both times she was revealed to be alive.

He was eventually caught after he tried to go on the run, kidnapping his girlfriend Belle Dingle.

When Belle tried to flee him, she was run over by Robert and Ross Barton who were trying to find them.

Lachlan was apprehended at the scene by police and arrested on suspicion of four murders, kidnap, GBH and false imprisonment.
