Great British Bake Off fans are obsesseed with Noel Fielding dressed as Marie Antionette

The eccentric co-host loomed at one of the contestants, Terry, during the showstopper round looking regal and rather sinister as the Last Queen.

Noel, 45, is known for his outlandish fashion sense but this ensemble really took the biscuit.

Complete with a two-foot wig and green and pink tapestried dress the Mighty Boosh star looked good enough to eat.

The costume was a nod to baker retired air steward Terry's showstopper masterpiece: a strawberry and champagne Eiffel tower cake.

Noel said: "I made a big sacrifice so you better win.

"This is what I do for you kids – so make it count in the baking!"

GBBO Viewers took to Twitter to express their delight with one fan saying: "My sexuality is Noel Fielding dressed as Marie Antoinette."

Another said: "If Noel Fielding appeared at my elbow dressed as Marie Antoinette I think I'd have a seizure."

Marie Antoinette was the last queen of Frnace before the French Revolution and was famous for uttering "let them eat cake" when told that the peasants had no bread.

She is also recognised in history for being very fashionable for her time.

Meanwhile the unseasonably hot summer the UK had meant that many of the bakers cakes went into meltdown.

Terry's Eiffel Tower cake failed to set and Luke's white chocolate and strawberry attempts was also a gooey mess.

However both Ruby and Rahul – who was also crowned star baker – got Hollywood handshakes for their creations this week while the baker that had to go home was Luke.
