'Gilmore Girls' Unpopular Opinions: Morey and Babette Were the Endgame Couple, Not Luke and Lorelai

Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore are seen as the “it” couple of Gilmore Girls. While most fans believe they were perfectly suited to each other, they had a massive communication issue and plenty of problems. Luke and Lorelai might not have been a perfect couple, but that doesn’t mean Stars Hollow didn’t have one. You could argue that Morey and Babette Dell were actually the town’s ideal pairing.

Morey and Babette worked together seamlessly

Morey and Babette seemed to float pretty seamlessly together, and their likenesses and differences can be credited for that. They weren’t so similar that they had communication issues. Instead, they shared similar interests but had vastly different personalities.

But what made them so much more successful than other Stars Hollow couples? One could argue that they never stopped being each other’s biggest fan. Babette remained enamored with Morey’s musical aspirations and looked positively starry-eyed while he was playing. For his part, Morey acquiesced to Babette’s preferences when he could, like her desire for a quick exit from the Stars Hollow Dance Marathon or agreeing to drink a ton of soda for a carnival game.

The duo were the only ‘Gilmore Girls’ couple that had healthy boundaries

Amy Sherman-Palladino didn’t often portray healthy relationship boundaries in Gilmore Girls. At least they were not present in Lorelai and Rory’s relationships. Emily and Richard Gilmore didn’t have them either. Morey and Babette displayed healthy boundaries, though. They also worked to ensure their significant other wasn’t lost in the shuffle.

They never gossiped about each other, and they didn’t seem to hide anything from each other, either. Gilmore Girls fans know how much Babette loved to talk, but she never said an unkind word about Morey. The long-married couple also had outside interests that they seemed to explore independently. Overall, they had the healthiest relationship dynamic, making them the ultimate “endgame” couple.
