GBBO viewers compare Prue Leith’s necklace to a game of Kerplunk in first show that saw Imelda sent home after biscuit challenge

The judge's vibrant fashion choice matched her bright blue specs for an eye-catching way to start the new series.

With their attention distracted from the baking on show, viewers wrote on Twitter: "Prue Leith has turned up as Kerplunk #GBBO.

"Why is Prue Leith dressed like a game of Kerplunk #gbbo.

"Prue Leith looks like she got into a fight with a game of Kerplunk and lost #GBBO.

"Who remembers Kerplunk? IM pretty sure Prue Leith’s necklace is made from the sticks from Kerplunk #GreatBritishBakeOff.

"#BakeOff My mum gave my old Kerplunk game to a charity shop. A week later she saw Prue Leith in the same shop. Ten years later it looks like she's wearing it in a home made necklace. Nice to see plastic being effectively recycled!"

In an entertaining return, Imelda McCarron was the first baker to get the boot, failing to impress with her "bland" selfie portrait showstopper.

Meanwhile Frenchwoman Manon Lagreve wowed the judges across the first three challenges to secure the first star baker.

Paul Hollywood praised her showpiece for its clean and precise design and Gallic style.

It wasn't just Prue's necklace that got viewers talking. As she and Paul sampled the new bakers' biscuits, Prue rolled out one of her favourite phrases – winding up many viewers at home in the process.

As she tasted one sweet treat, she said it was "worth the calories", something fans of the show don't want to hear as they tuck into their own snacks in the comfort of their own home.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "#GBBO it's only week one & Prue is banging on about 'worth the calories' give it a rest & eat the damn biscuits woman!"

Another added: "24 minutes into episode one. That's how long it took Prue to say something was 'not healthy but worth the calories' YOU'RE ON A SHOW ABOUT BISCUITS".

A third agreed, tweeting: "I don't like Prue talking about food being worth the calories, watching #GBBO is pretty much the only time I don't care about calories and being a greedy guts!"

A fourth simply wrote: "SHUT UP ABOUT CALORIES PRUE #GBBO".

Avid fans of the show had been aware of Prue's calorie chat from last year's series and were disappointed she hadn't shut up about it since.

One viewer wrote: "Thoroughly furious that 'it's worth the calories' hasn't died a fiery death in between seasons."

Another added: "Petition for Prue to stop saying whether things are 'worth the calories' please?"

A third tweeted: "PRUE NOBODY IS HERE TO HEAR ABOUT CALORIES STOP IT."

A fourth agreed, writing: "I HATE when Prue mentions calories – it's a bloody baking show no one watching is here to care about calories!!!"

That wasn't the only thing to rile viewers, with many shocked that the show had made THIS major change to the first episode.
