The HBO series has become synonymous with sex and nudity thanks to countless scenes of a graphic nature. Game of Thrones season one not only led to the coining of the phrase “sexposition” but featured adult actors who starred in the saucier sequences. Many members of the cast have got their kit off during Game of Thrones. But by and large the majority have been female with their male counterparts having to bare less for the camera.
One cast member who has had to do lots of nude and love scenes from the start is Emilia Clarke, better to known to audiences as the Mother of Dragons.
Sharing her thoughts on the scenes, Clarke recently said she still gets a lot of flak for doing the sex and nude scenes but “would never change a thing”.
She told The Sun: “I just wanted to come out and do an empowered scene that wasn’t sexual – it was naked, but it was strong.
“I get a lot of c*** for having done nude scenes and sex scenes. That, in itself, is so anti-feminist.”
The star added: “Women hating on other women is just the problem. That’s upsetting.”

However, she has previously spoken about nudity equality, telling Stephen Colbert: “You know I did it, so why can’t the boys do it?” and calling for “junk equality”.
Carice van Houten, who portrays red priestess Melisandre, previously said she wanted to “normalise” nudity on screen, questioning why violence seemed to be more acceptable.
“In Melisandre’s case, I think I can justify it because she uses sexuality as a weapon… she’s trying to manipulate,” van Houten said of her character.
She continued to the Telegraph: “I find it hypocritical that we can show people with their heads blown off, then there’s one nipple and viewers get upset.”
The Dutch actress has previously called for male nudity onscreen – so long as it was functional.
Cersei Lannister star Lena Headey has also defended Game of Thanes, explaining to Vulture previously: “I’ve said from day one that I’ve got no problem with nudity. I’ve done it throughout my career. But for this character, it’s been better for her regality and her feistiness to not bare her flesh until she has to.

“When it’s out of her control. And if that ever happens, it won’t be Cersei being seductive or sexy.”
The actress incurred the wrath of fans after it had emerged, she’d used nude body double Rebecca Van Cleave for Cersei’s walk of shame in season five.
Defending the decision, she told Entertainment Weekly: “Some people thought I was less of an actress because I didn’t get my t*ts out. You know what? It was really a bit shocking. I’ve done nudity. I’m not averse to it.”
She said that in order to rein in her performance, she felt a nude body double was more appropriate.
What about the male cast members on the show? Among the men to have featured in the raunchier scenes have been the likes of Iwan Rheon, who played the sadistic Ramsay Bolton, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
Harington, whose character Jon was seen in a passionate tryst with Daenerys Targaryen at the end of season seven, has also called for equality in nudity.
“It’s only right if you’re going to make a show where nudity and sex is a large part of it, that you be a part of that,” he told Hollywood Life.

Misfits star Rheon explained to The Independent: “If it was right for the scene then yeah, I would. I mean Emilia coming out of the fire, she’s got to be naked because otherwise why is she wearing asbestos clothes?
“But then whether it’s distracting to have a w**** waggling round in a scene and whether it’s going to make everyone go… I’m walking into a minefield really, aren’t I?”
Allen’s character has gone on quite a journey too, initially coming across as quite a lusty character engaging in numerous trysts before Ramsay took his manhood away from him.
Allen told Wetpaint in 2012: “I think it’s one of the only places where he can have power, where he has authority. Because he has no sense of authority in any part of his life, because everyone is making decisions for him, and that’s the only place — in the bedroom — where he has a sense of authority and power.”
Reflecting on the nudity, he said: “I think it’s very important to the show. And, come on, we all love to see it, don’t we? It’s fun. There’s a lot of food, a lot of violence, a lot of sex in this program, and that’s definitely three staples of life that we all love.”
Game of Thrones season 8 will air on HBO on April 14 and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on April 15.
