Game of Thrones' Kit Harington and Lenny Henry will voice BBC One's animated Christmas special Zog

On Game of Thrones, Kit Harington has ridden on the back of a massive dragon in the middle of a war with the undead White Walkers. His next TV role involving a dragon is going to be a tad more family-friendly.

The Jon Snow actor is one of the stars lending his voice to BBC One’s adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved children’s story Zog, just in time for Christmas this year.

The half-hour animated adventure will tell the adorable story of an accident-prone dragon and his young friend as he tries to graduate from year five of Dragon School. For his final challenge, he’ll have to capture a princess.

Harington definitely won’t be cast against type voicing the noble knight Sir Gadabout the Great, while the legendary Sir Lenny Henry has been cast as the narrator.

“It’s wonderful to have voiced the narrator in Zog for this Christmas,” Sir Lenny said. “The story has a lovely lyricism to it and it’s been really good fun seeing the beautiful animation come together.

“There’s a cast of brilliant actors and the story is silly, and outrageous, and surreal, and I like all of those things!”

That cast includes the great Tracey Ullman as Madame Dragon, Patsy Ferran as Princess Pearl and Hugh Skinner as Zog himself. The film is being made by Magic Light Pictures, the same team who produced The Highway Rat, The Gruffalo and Stick Man.

Zog will be airing on BBC One in the UK over the Christmas period.
