Game of Thrones: Jaime Lannister’s original destiny unveiled in Iron Throne shock

Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolas Coster-Waldau) was one of the more complex characters in the HBO series. His love for his sister often came into conflict with the good parts of his character, which Game of Thrones fans saw develop throughout the series, including the final run.

It was his twin sister Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) who rose to power after the death of her husband, followed by the death of all her children.

However, it seems as though this could’ve been Jaime’s destiny at one point.

The original outline sent to publishers by George RR Martin, through Insider, has shown the path the author originally intended Jamie to take.

“Jaime Lannister will follow Joffrey on the throne of the Seven Kingdoms, by the simple expedient of killing everyone ahead of him in the line of succession and blaming his brother Tyrion for the murders,” wrote the novelist.

His young brother Tommen (Dean Charles Chapman) then became King, but he took his own life following the death of his wife Margery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer).

It then fell to Cersei to rule the Seven Kingdoms, although her reign did not last long.

As viewers saw, Jaime underwent some serious character development over the course of the series.

But the anti-hero eventually returned into the arms of his sister when King’s Landing fell at the hands of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

The pair died as the Red Keep crumbled around them, with their bodies found by their brother Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).

While Game of Thrones already has one prequel series in the works, another is reportedly ready to get the green light from HBO.

This prequel is said to focus on the rise and fall of House Targaryen prior to the events of the original series.

The reports from Deadline suggest the programme would be set 300 years before Game of Thrones and centre around the Targaryens.
