Game of Thrones cup error ‘worth half a million’ to Starbucks as fans claim it was PLANNED

Game of Thrones’ cup blunder netted Starbucks hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of free advertising, claims a PR expert.

In one scene shot in the great hall of Winterfell, Daenerys Targaryen sat looking pensive as Jon Snow laughed and joked with friends.

Awkwardly, at the table in front of Daenerys was a small white Starbucks cup. Within minutes screenshots of the fail were circulated online.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star Online, PR Expert Joe Satari has revealed that the massive prop mistake was worth a fortune to Starbucks.

He explained: “For shows as big as Game of Thrones, brands can expect to pay up to 100 to 200 thousand pounds for product placement.

“Considering the HBO series is essentially the most talked about show in the world and the amount of social media attention its gotten, Starbucks could have been asked to pay double that.

“But instead they got all the promotion for free! It would be interesting to know if it really was a mishap…”

Following the debacle, some fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that the entire incident could have been planned.

“I’m beginning to think it was subliminal advertising,” said one suspicious viewer.

“A big budget, meticulously planned show like Game of Thrones wont let a Starbucks cup go unnoticed in their edits. Well played, Starbucks. Probably the marketing coup of the year!” said a second fan.

A third fan said: “Was this a pre planned mishap? As a marketing guy I tend to believe it is!”

While a fourth added: “They put so much money into making things as realistic as possible, it’s not like they would mess up like this!”

Daily Star Online has contacted a HBO and Starbucks spokesman for comment.

Game of Thrones continues Sunday on Sky Atlantic.
