Friends reunion could be 'postponed until next year' due to coronavirus crisis

Bad news Friends fans, the long-awaited reunion HBO MAX special could be postponed until 2021.

Thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, most TV plans are completely in the air as studios have been forced to stop all production for an indefinite amount of time.

And now reports are claiming that HBO bosses might just push back shooting of the special till next year so that Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer can reunite as the world deserves.

A source told The Sun: ‘It looks like the reunion might have to scheduled for next year now.

‘It was difficult enough getting everyone on board for filming in March and it will be incredibly hard to get them all together at the same time again.’

They continued: ‘If the coronavirus restrictions continue until May and June, which is looking very likely at this point, there will be no choice but to postpone until next year because it’s proving impossible to find dates when they’re all free this year.

‘Everyone knows how excited the fans are but realistically it won’t be filmed or airing until 2021 now.’

The news comes after Matt LeBlanc confirmed that filming had partly begun on the Friend Union shortly before the pandemic began.

In the pre-recorded interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 52-year-old stressed the cast won’t be reprising any of the Central Perk crew but will be looking back at the ‘good old days’.

‘We got the band back together without the instruments,’ he told the American Idol winner.

After weeks of denying reports a Friends reunion was coming, Matt, Jennifer, David, Courteney, Matthew and Lisa all confirmed they’d been in on the secret all along with six synchronised Instagram posts, each reading: ‘It’s happening…’

Sadly, delays or no delays, there’s no guarantee fans will be able to watch it in the UK!

Metro.co.uk has contacted HBO for comment.

Friends is available to stream on Netflix and airs daily on Comedy Central.
