Emmerdale has been full of drama recently, and it looks like fans of the ITV soap are going to have to watch some very emotional scenes in the upcoming weeks.
The show will see the return of Lisa Dingle (played by Jane Cox), yet fans know that she has a terminal illness.
There are only a handful of characters that know about her diagnosis: Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), and her girlfriend, Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick).
A new clip of one of next week’s upcoming episodes has been released via ITV’s website, and it shows the beginnings of the surprise party that Lisa prepared for her mother and father’s return.
Lisa and Zak were returning from Scotland, yet Charity doesn’t seem as happy as everyone else is to see Lisa, and it’s because she knows about Lisa’s imminent death.
She just can’t prevent the pained expression on her face, and it must be tough seeing her cousin, Belle, be so happy to see her mother back home.
Fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the sad storyline.
One fan wrote: “Poor charity having to keep quiet about Lisa.”
Another added: “Charity can’t hide her sadness about Lisa.”
One more viewer said: “Tonight was heartbreaking in many ways David in bits over Jacob. Victoria Distraught Glad she has Moira for support. Then there is Charity going through the devastating heartbreak of holding Lisa’s secret. Full of emotions tonight. Phenomenal.”
“Oh no Charity’s resigned look,” tweeted one more viewer.
Another viewer expressed: “I feel bad for Charity.”
It’s still unsure when Lisa will eventually leave the show or when they’ll tell Belle about her diagnosis.
Meanwhile, Friday’s episode saw Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) agree to meet up with his father, David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) to discuss his relationship with Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein).
David was optimistic he could get his son back from Maya; however, things look set to go spectacularly wrong.
In upcoming episodes, viewers will see the pair anxiously watching the news to see if the police have been alerted about their romance.
Maya hatches a plan for the pair to move to Newcastle to start a new life together so that they can get away from everybody in the village.
However, she ends up being furious with Jacob when she finds out that he had has agreed to meet up with David.
Showing his affection and devotion to Maya, Jacob smashes up his phone so that David can no longer contact him. However, he does end up meeting his father and telling him the truth.
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 9pm.
