Emmerdale lines up three possible deaths… and 8 more big soap moments you have to see this week

Struggling to keep track of the constant stream of soap spoilers? Fear not, as every Monday Digital Spy picks out the biggest and best storylines hitting your screens in the week ahead.

1. Emmerdale: Deadly week in the village? (7pm all week, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursday)

It’s that time of the year again as Emmerdale airs its annual big October week, which could be very bad news for various characters in the village. When Kim Tate makes her explosive return, she has Joe in her sights from the very start and warns Graham that it’s time to get rid of him once and for all. And no, she doesn’t just mean waving him off in a helicopter.

Kim also faces terrible danger herself when she gatecrashes the Home Farm charity ball, insults most of the guests and gets pushed from an upstairs balcony as punishment for her spiteful behaviour. This means she’s another character who may not necessarily make it through the week – she is only back for six episodes, after all.

Ross Barton is also feeling murderous when he tracks down acid attacker Simon and prepares to drown him in the lake. With Ross’s exit getting closer and the stakes higher than ever, will he kill before he leaves the show?

2. Coronation Street: Car crash carnage (Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV)

The Grim Reaper will definitely be paying a visit to Corrie this week, as the ongoing storyline with gangster Ronan Truman ends in tragedy. When Michelle realises that her family need police protection and heads off with her sons Ryan and Ali, it’s already far too late as Ronan is following them.

The tense situation leads to a high-stakes car chase and crash, which will kill one character and leave two other lives hanging in the balance. Who lives and who dies? All will be revealed in Friday’s episodes, which have a couple of big surprises in store.

3. EastEnders: Ruby faces a devastating ordeal (Monday at 8pm and Tuesday at 7.30pm on BBC One)

EastEnders is exploring the issue of consent in a topical new storyline for returning character Ruby. When Ruby attends Martin’s school reunion at the E20, she enjoys the company of newcomers Matt and Ross. Ruby takes a shine to Ross in particular but after drunkenly sleeping with him and passing out, she wakes up to find Matt on top of her.

When a traumatised Ruby confides in Stacey about what happened, her best friend urges her to see that she’s been raped and should report the matter to the police. Will Ruby take her advice?

4. Hollyoaks: Cleo and Joel’s wedding day (Tuesday at 7pm on E4 / Wednesday at 6.30pm on Channel 4)

Hollyoaks airs another important episode focusing on mental health as Cleo and Joel’s wedding day looks set to go horribly wrong. As Cleo prepares to walk down the aisle, her loved ones are all unaware that she’s continued to struggle badly with her bulimia over the past few months.

The episode, specially written for World Mental Health Day, explores the wedding from different perspectives – showing Cleo’s fragile grip on reality compared to what’s actually happening. Will Cleo’s problems cast a shadow over the day, and will she get to say “I do”?

5. Neighbours: Cassius caught out (Monday and Tuesday at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5)

Killer Cassius finally faces the music when Piper catches up with him and thwarts his desperate runaway attempt. As Piper demands an explanation from Cassius in his motel room near the airport, she secretly calls the police and tries her best to stall him for as long as possible.

Piper’s clever move leads to Cassius being arrested – and paves the way for wrongly-accused Tyler to make an exciting return next week. But will it really be so easy for everyone to move on from Cassius’s deception once the truth is out?

6. Coronation Street: Tracy and Steve’s wedding (Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV)

The other big talking point in Corrie this week is Steve and Tracy’s wedding, which definitely won’t be going without a hitch. The big day is dramatic from the start, as Tracy gets the wrong idea over Steve’s “free pass” fiasco and jumps to the conclusion that he’s slept with Abi behind her back.

When Tracy arrives at the wedding venue, she gives Steve a piece of her mind in an angry rant. Since Steve hasn’t actually betrayed Tracy with Abi, the matter is sure to be quickly cleared up… but could the awkward truth about Steve and Leanne come out instead? We hope so!

7. EastEnders: It’s make or break for Mel and Ray (Friday at 8pm on BBC One)

Mel seems to be doubting her relationship with Ray when she begs Jack to investigate him on her behalf. Although Ray quickly uncovers Mel’s lack of trust in him and tries to sort things out, the situation only gets worse when he continues his strange and secretive behaviour.

After hearing what Jack has found out for her, Mel orders Ray to stay away from her. Despite this, it’s not long before she changes her mind yet again, organising a dinner so they can talk things through. (We can’t keep up!) Mel has a surprising proposition for Ray, but what is it and will he accept?

8. Hollyoaks: Mercedes and Sylver under suspicion (Monday at 7pm on E4 / Tuesday at 6.30pm on Channel 4)

Mercedes and Sylver should be watching their backs this week, as Russ has secretly hired Jack to spy on them on his behalf. Worried that the pair are sneaking around behind his back, Russ wants to know the truth either way.

Carrying out Russ’s orders, Jack breaks into the workshop in a disguise to find out what’s really going on between Sylver and Mercedes. When Breda figures out what he’s up to, she warns Jack to stay out of the messy situation and let her talk to Sylver herself. Will Mercedes find out how insecure Russ is over their relationship?

9. Home and Away: Ryder off the rails? (Wednesday and Thursday at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5)

Ryder is one to watch this week as he struggles with loneliness after his split from Coco. The break-up means that he’s not spending as much time with Coco and Raffy these days, while he’s also lacking a male friend in his life following Ty’s recent departure from Summer Bay.

When Ryder gets to know bad boy Dean, the pair have an unlikely heart-to-heart and Alf is concerned to see his impressionable grandson striking up this new friendship. As talk turns to the River Boys’ lifestyle and Ryder seems impressed, is there a danger that he could become the next member of the surfer gang?
