Emmerdale fans blast scriptwriters for bringing rapist’s mum Wendy back on show

Emmerdale fans weren't happy with the arrival of one character in the village tonight, as Wendy made a return on the show.

The midwife, who is the mother of rapist Lee Posner, was invited to run a mother and baby support group in the pub.

Fuming at Bear for inviting Wendy along, Chas begrudgingly attended with baby Eve in tow.

Chas eventually stormed out, blasting Wendy for giving her parenting tips – though she later pursued her back to her house.

Once they laid eyes on the reunion scene, viewers were fuming at Wendy's reintroduction but predicted Wendy and Chas would become friends.

One said: "Emmerdale keeping Wendy around?? No offence to the actress but ugh…"

A second added: "I know Wendy isn't as awful as her son and only wanted to believe the best of him, but she took part in a campaign of harassment against a rape victim, and also still tells her she's lying to her face, so keep her away from Chas please!!!"

While a third agreed: "I'm gonna try and keep it zipped about Wendy. The actress is great but making her a regular character is a big misstep."

That said, a fourth remarked: "Wendy's presence will be very triggering for some people but she didn't rape anyone. She's guilty of sticking up for her son because mothers rarely see when their kids do something wrong."

Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
