EastEnders viewers joke about Albert Square's "never-ending" Halloween

While the rest of us celebrated Halloween yesterday (October 31) by eating lots of sweets and scrolling through Instagram to look at celebrities’ costumes this year (just us?), the EastEnders lot have been dressing up and getting drunk for about a week now.

The soap’s big Halloween storylines began on Monday (October 29) as Hayley went into labour, Keegan went out trick-or-treating with a revenge plan in mind and Billy offered to look after the children by himself so Honey could spend time with Adam.

Tonight’s episode (November 1) brought a lot of those stories to a dramatic head as Keegan broke down after fearing he’d killed someone in a knife attack while Hayley was discovered unconscious and taken to hospital after delivering her baby alone.

But for viewers, many of them just couldn’t believe that all of this had happened in one night:

Of course, it’s not unusual for EastEnders to dedicate a week’s worth of episodes to a day or two with a lot going on, with big storylines at Halloween, Christmas and New Year often unfolding over the same night in Soapland but a few days in real life.

Last year also saw Halloween on Albert Square last the whole week and the spoiler pictures for this week teased a week’s worth of drama too.

Still, it does mean that poor Billy Mitchell has been attempting to keep the kids’ occupied for a while now, trying his hand at everything from telling scary stories (that didn’t quite land) to apple-bobbing.

The Halloween fun didn’t all go to plan though as Amy Mitchell’s prank on Tuesday left Billy injured and self-medicating with alcohol and painkillers tonight, leading to a shock collapse.

EastEnders airs on BBC One.
