EastEnders viewers gobsmacked as twist reveals fan theory over who shot Stuart is WRONG

Fans of the long-running BBC soap have been gripped this week as show villain Stuart Highway was shot in the Queen Vic on Tuesday night.

Fans were quick to suspect Linda Carter had pulled the trigger when she was seen disposing of a gun in the canal at the end of the previous episode.

But on Thursday night it turned out she was not the would-be killer – as she admitted to husband Mic that she threw away the gun after suspecting he was the one to shoot Stuart (who is now in a coma).

Viewers were left gobsmacked by the revelation – as so many had been convinced Linda was the culprit.

“So Linda didn't shot Stuart, who did then?” one fan asked – echoing the words of Linda herself, who had asked Mic: “If it weren’t you, who was it?”

Others were impressed Linda was so quick to cover for Mic – even though he didn’t shoot Stuart.

“Great marriage when you suspect your husband of shooting his crazy mate,” one fan tweeted.

While another branded the soap coupled: “Mick and Linda are relationship goals”.

Of course, now that Linda has been ruled out as the shooter, speculation is rife over who the true shooter is – much to the anger of some fans.

“Fuming it weren't Linda tbh. This is gonna drag out til Christmas,” one viewer tweeted.

While others have started to point the finger at Whitney.

“My mind is pointing towards Whitney, she is the only one who’s story isn’t clear yet,” one viewer pondered.

“Probably Whitney,” theorised another – while a further fan tweeted: "100000% think it was Whitney!"

But others suggested that Stuart himself could have been the shooter – in a twisted act of revenge.

“I think Stuart shot himself, his last revenge was to break the family break up from trust because everyone is gonna suspect someone in the group,” one viewer wrote in a not completely unfeasible suggestion.

While another viewer simply tweeted: “Stuart probably shot himself he’s a psycho.”

EastEnders will continue on BBC One on Friday at 8pm – and the teaser for the next episode suggests a suspect is about to be named.

“News ripples around the Square and everyone is shocked to learn what happened at the Vic – and before the day is out, the police make a surprise arrest,” the Radio Times reveal.
