EastEnders star Jake Wood wants to bring celeb boxing to TV and says it will be ‘great’ – The Sun

CHARITY celeb boxing matches have been popular with sports fans, and now actor Jake Wood wants to bring them to the small screen.

The EastEnders star, who plays Max Branning on the BBC1 soap, has been taking part in the sport since he was a youngster and has his own boxing podcast, Pound For Pound, with ex-fighter and Sky Sports pundit Spencer Oliver.

Jake said: “We have a TV company looking at it at the moment. It would be celebrities boxing on TV. I think the time is right for it.

“You see celebrities train for things like Strictly Come Dancing and we think it would work as it is a great sport. It would be great TV.

“The idea is to train celebs from scratch and you would have proper trainers. It could be the best of three rounds.

“You could have anyone on the show. It would be like EastEnders versus Coronation Street.

“You could get Piers Morgan fighting with Jeremy Clarkson — that would be good. I would watch that. Or we could have Emmerdale versus Hollyoaks.

“I used to do boxing when I was a kid. I love the sport.”

Jake also thinks boxing is a great way to tackle knife crime among youngsters.

He said: “They are picking up blades. We have got to get in these kids’ nuts somehow.

“Boxing is a good way — discipline. Just something to get the old heart beating and the adrenaline going. I know it is a dangerous sport but it is also a good way to shape a man.”

If it was for charity, perhaps I could enter the ring with Bizarre Editor Simon Boyle.
