Stacey Slater’s (played by Lacey Turner) love life has enjoyed many highs and lows in EastEnders but the convict could have a surprise in store for Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) when she returns home. BBC soap spoilers have confirmed Stacey will arrive in Walford with new character Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) and have teased the pair share a “special bond”. Could Eve be Stacey’s latest romantic conquest?

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, EastEnders boss Kate Oates shared her excitement at Stacey’s upcoming return.

She said: “I’m delighted to see Lacey Turner return to the Square as Stacey.

“Stacey has made a new friend in prison, and will shortly be joined by Eve – her cellmate inside, and her new best friend on the outside.

“But where Eve goes, chaos follows. There’s a reason Eve’s sentence kept getting extended when she’d initially been imprisoned for a short stint: she simply can’t keep out of trouble.”

“But with Stacey out on probation, Jean is determined that Eve will not lead her daughter into bad ways,” she continued.

“But just how extreme is Jean prepared to go to keep Stacey on the straight and narrow?”

Executive Producer Jon Sen added: “We’re really excited about [Eve] and what that kind of friendship is going to be.

“They come back having shared a prison experience that has united them in a very unique friendship.”

EastEnders spoilers have teased Eve will waste no time in clashing with those closest to Stacey.

Jean will be extremely protective of her daughter and won’t be pleased to see she has a destructive influence in her life.

However, could Stacey and Eve be more than just friends and cellmates?

The mum of three’s love life was virtually non-existent when she left for prison and her ex-husband had already moved on with Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton).

Stacey’s choice of lovers has famously got her in trouble in the past.

Will Eve convince Stacey to enter into a life of crime with her or will the new couple settle into life on the square?

On joining the BBC soap, Heather Peace says: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Eastenders and I love my character, Eve.

“She’s tough but fair; super bright and cheeky. I’m loving working with such a brilliant cast, in particular Lacey Turner.

“We immediately got on and sparked off each other which makes going to work easy & fun.”

EastEnders boss Jon added: “We are delighted to welcome Heather Peace to the cast of EastEnders, she is playing a fascinating character in Eve and her arrival in Albert Square will be sure to cause a whole lot of mayhem which we can’t wait to explore, particularly through her relationship with Stacey and the rest of the Slater clan.

“Heather brings the perfect amount of boldness and wit to the role and we can’t wait to introduce her to the fans.”

EastEnders airs on BBC One on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
